In the garden of Eden, a gallery space beyond the burnt out summer of London, we gathered. Our stolen gold, a fête of words. It’s my pleasure to share this lil film I’ve been carving away at, a duet written to accompany Jason McGlade’s film.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Thanks to Susan Bradley Smith for sliding me aside Blake as an epigram. @bluepoetess. Like me, she’s chosen to live upfront with a clearly female name, yet is rooted from the male, rock n’ roll beatnik canon. She hovers in sheer detachment at the absurdity of dangers of this beautiful life.
Grooving as a butterfly 🦋 thru international scenes, with alcohol and wrong relationships, she slams surreal 21st century poetry “my self-esteem was asparagus” with a raw tragedy at the loss and waste of youth. Her honesty is from the privilege of stripes gained at the shitfaced coalface of being broken.
This is niche, cool dope in a world where the quest for the unsaid kicks against the sanitised normality of everyday success.
🪨🪽 finally I own one of my most outstanding art teacher’s prints. Peter S Smith @stanandgladys is a master printmaker and holds a studio @stbridefoundation where he hosts workshops. This work is based on #alangarnerauthor#peterssmith and is a ltd edition c/o stupendous @inclinepress - I absolutely adore what this print atelier create. Their postal missives are radically divine.
On Friday I watched A Strange Loop at the Barbican (musicals are not my thing, but everything is an education, and doing it for Pride with dear Ris Fatah (who’s writing a lot on Queerguru), I love that this has hit the mainstream - and its simplicity is approachability with a raucous edge). On Saturday, I was North, having a real fun time watching the Leonard Cohen of our times, Pulp at Finsbury Park. Thanks to our pals for the top treatment. Sunday was a wonderful day around the new Leighton House.
The culture bus rolls on, excited to join The Museum of Sex Objects on a tour of Soho this week, see the debut show of works on paper by Vik Winter at Benjamin Rhodes Gallery, return to Gallery46 for Robert Montgomery’s Art School show, and duck out for some hardcore writing.
I hear Everybody In The Place is playing the Rio on Thursday - if you haven’t, it’s essential British viewing. x
